You surely know what a phobia is: 'an excessive or unreasonable fear of a specific object or situation which is generally considered to be harmless. Actually, if you have a phobia, you may realize that your fear is unreasonable, but you still cannot control it. If you are exposed to the thing you are afraid of, you become overwhelmed with extreme feelings of anxiety, fear, and even panic. This experience is so unpleasant that you will go to give a lot of excuses to avoid the object or situation you fear'.

Let's start by claustrophobia, the most common one. What are the common symptoms? You have sweating, rapid heart beat, shortness of breath or hyperventilation, trembling, light-headedness or fainting, nausea, feelings of dread, terror, panic. Some other symptoms can be automatically and compulsively looking for exits when in a room or feeling fearful if doors are shut, avoiding elevators, riding in subways or airplanes, or cars in heavy traffic, in crowded social situation, standing near exits

What are the phobias that you know? Do you want to have any info about a particular phobia?

Hi.
How are you Splash? Thanks for this thread.

I got a particular phobia, since I am quite young. It is not very common I think. This is what we call Emetophobia, that is, the extreme fear of throwing up. At a time, every night, after dinner, when I was going to sleep, I had this feeling of anxiety or panic, cold sweats, and some other symptoms that you mentionned. I was really afraid that my digestion was not done properly, if I ate something not easily digestable, I felt like I was dying when my digestion was being done only slowly.

I also hate the word starting by "V..." even though I'm trying to get used to it now. I can't see, hear or know that anyone is being sick.

It's a bit frustrating at some moment. This constant fear bothers me a lot...I think I'm gonna be faced to it at some time or other...I don't know how I'll control my fears!

Hello both of you. I suffer from acrophobia since i am a little boy too. This is a very bad thing to have phobias for boys, because the others make fun of you. I can't even stand on a balcony to look at the cars or at the stars without starting to panic after some time. Can you help? I have never heard about emetophobia before, it seems to be a very embarrassing phobia

Emetophobia is quite rare I think. Acrophobia is fear of heights is it? That must be awful too... You shouldn't feel embarassed to have such fears, I know many guys who have 'funnier' phobias than you!! <if i can say so - 'funnier'>. My uncle's afraid of spiders...arachnophobia we call it I think. You'll find fear of insects more often with women, but he's a man and he can't even see a plastic spider!! He could die of a heart attack when you put one in front of him!
The reason to my phobia is that one day, I was still a child, I was sick All Day!! It was terrible. I got traumatised by that!

Yours is funny too stacey, in fact all phobias are funny, don't you think? Well, even if a lot of men have phobias, it is just that the others laughed at me at school, they still do and it is not pleasant at all

Yes it must not have been easy for you I guess... among those guys who were laughing about you, I'm sure most of them had more stupid phobias. By the way, it's Elvy here Stacey's too much on your mind, you are seeing her everywhere! Dat's cute.

Oh My Bergy Sweety's thinking about me a lot?

Yea that's a quite common fear -> arachnophobia... My mum's a claustrophobe, hates lifts, cannot stay in the dark and all...even low-lighted rooms stresses her...She doesn't really panick, but she doesn't feel well at all...She feels like she's suffocating in those restraint places.
I also heard about agoraphobia, fear of open spaces I think..
Homophobia of course..

I don't really know if I've got a phobia, but I hate insects!! It's not to the point of panicking or alerting the whole neighbourhood that I saw a *Censored **Censored **Censored **Censored *roach!!! lol. But I hate those creepy little things. They're so ugly, Uhrk..

Hello all of you. Thanks for replying. Stacey yes, you have a phobia too, fear of insects is Entomophobia. Yes Elvy, actually your phobia is not very common and usually starts in childhood as you stated. Bergisten, try hypnotherapy. Is there a hypnotherapist in your region? Usually, nearly all phobias can be easily cured by hypnosis

what about attempting to talk to a family member when you know they dont want to talk to you? Would that be considered a phobia?

Hello Tammy, it depends how and when your fear comes up, you have fear of relatives which is called Syngenesophobia. Are you afraid of one of your family member?
