It’s been a year now since my wife has started an evening job to bring in some extra money. For the night I looked after the kids. Once I'd put the kids in bed I began drinking through boredom.

When she had a night off, she kept going to bed early as she said she was tired. And this has goes on and now we hardly saw anything of each other and I drank even more.

The other day we have had a serious argument coz I tried to find out what was wrong. I suspected an affair. But she insisted that there is nothing. I feel that she is keeping her distance. She took the kids and walks out. She doesn’t want to come back until I’ve proved I’m clean. And I’m getting some treatment at a nearby clinic.

She won't accept any financial help from me. Does this sound like she's already made her mind up about me, or that she genuinely wants to come back when we're both ready?

No dear, Eleonor, I don't think that he already made her mind up about you. You need to cure yourself, if you really want her back, prove her. The only proof which you can provide her is to make the effort to get yourself out of this mess. Treat yourself, and you are on the right track since are already being treated in a clinic.

Prove her that you really want her back

She decided to take an evening job for the benefit of the whole family.

You were not fully right to accuse her for having an affair which yourself you are not sure, you don't have proof. She was right to get mad by your flaming reaction.

She agreed to come back once you are clean which means that she is not having an extra marital affair. You should be happy with it.

It seems to me like she wants the best for you and your health. Alcohol can be a serious problem. When you were drinking at home, remember that she was working for both of you and that’s how you thank her. If she wanted to leave you, she would have done so already. Prove her that you can stop the drinking and you’ll see that when you’re sober you can appreciate things better.

Dear Eleonor, do not lose faith!! I am sure that with time everything will become alright. Your wife has not made up her mindbut you must perhaps excuse yourself for your attitude towards her because maybe it is true that when she returned home after working she was tired...continue with your treatment and Good Luck!!!

Hi man!! Don't worry everything will be alright with time, you must not lose hope. I understand the pain of losing the one you love but sometimes it is better to take a break and think about the things that you have to change so that latter on everything become alright. Good luck buddy!!

He just stood there looking at me
With his tear-filled eyes,
The expression of grief showed on his face
He was waiting for me to die.
