We can say that the environmental factors in childhood play an important role in determining whether or not a person grows up to be a chronic liar. Those who come from a chaotic and dysfunctional family have greater tendencies to lie than those who grew up in a caring home. A child coming from a dysfunctional family lies to change or modify reality so as to make life more tolerable, it's the reason why, lying becomes a strategy of coping with the hostile environment or reality for some persons.

Discipline also plays a role in encouraging or discouraging lying in some people. Severe punishment for bad behaviours, in contradiction encourage deception, as the child realizes a need to get out of punishment by any means possible. Inconsistent punishment for lying or the total lack of punishment will also encourage the child to lie. Another important thing is that punishing a child for lying and then getting caught lying yourself will do nothing to improve the situation.

Amusingly, it is not only humans who lie. Well, lying seems to be something every living creature on the planet is familiar with. For example, the butterflies during the ‘Industrial Revolution’ managed to become soot-coloured so that they would blend in nicely with their sooty environment, thus escaping from the predators who chase them. Stick insects do the same when they to be twigs.

Is that logic? If you grow in a bad environment, you become a liar? Let's take stars for example, nearly all of them have weird backgrounds and they have succeeded in life. Eminem, J Lo, Pink, Kurt Cobain, Michael Jackson were all affected in their childhood.

Children growing up in a bad environment are more exposed to become liars. They don't automatically become liars though. The different experiences in life moulds our personality. Eminem has succeeded but he divorced his wife 2 times and is into drugs. He also insults other celebrities, his mum, his wife in his songs only God knows why ... Here we are not putting the emphasis on lies, but it shows that people having an unstable background are more subject to psychological problems

With Eminem its only what the media tells us, how do you really know he is into drugs ect, and hte only reason he goes on about his ex is because he is hurt and that is his way of getting hte pain out. WHat we have to remember with these "stars" is that htey are just regualr people and they pull stunts to get more media attention.

Who has not ever lied in his life!! I don't think "a few" is a palusible answer! I don't come from what we could call a dysfunctional family, but I used to lie sometimes like every teenager. I lied because I feared to be told off by mum, when I knew what I was doing was wrong. I lied for instance when I had to go somewhere forbidden, and so as not to get a "no" I said I was going somewhere else. But I know perfect liars who just invent their life, another life!! This I never understood

this is very true. the atmosphere a child grows in determines the type of human being he will become. if he is in an environment where lying is considered to beright then this is what he will learn. he will lie constantly thinking that it is right. it is the duty of the parents to tell the child that lying is not right but wrong.

Absolutely, i had an ex who was a terrible liar. Actually he lied about each and every little thing in his life. this was a kinda 'custom' in his family. His parents are big liars and thought that they were good examples for their children .... really pitiful

I know a girl who's always been lying about her boyfriends. Actually that's what I think...All of us, friends and I (and she forms part of our friends) are dating someone, and I know this girl since the two years. When all of us mention our boy or girlfriend, she joins in too. That's okay, that's normal, no problem. THE problem is that, of the 3 or 4 guys she SUPPOSEDLY went out with for months (each of them), we never saw them!! Every time we wanted to know about him and all, she always found a way to tell us that he's not free, they're not free, he's not in the country, etc etc etc....All sorts of pretexts. It's not about getting obssessed by meeting the guy, but it sound really weird!! This made my doubts rise, and I'm 98% sure she's been lying all the time... What's the matter with her??
