my friends ex is trying to get the custody of their son after 8 years of her kid staying with her. he is trying to do it the cheap way. he hasnt paid child support regularly for all those years. just small bits and pieces which she can count. and he has filed for ssi/disabilty. actually he doesnt want the kid but its his mom who is putting all the crap into his head. is there a chance that he will get the custody

I would say no, but if there is a good change of circumstances then it is possible. So, if the father wanted his child bad enough and changed his life to make it better than the mother, he would have a chance of getting him.
Even if he has not paid child support he still has every right to his child!

no way. he has been too careless towards the kid and i dont think the law is going to give him the custody. on the contrary if he had been very attached towards the kid and had fulfilled all his responsibilities then mayne he had a chance but not now.
