I have sole physical custody (meaning the kids live with me 100% of the time) but joint legal custody. That means I have to consult with my ex-husband about drastic changes to my kids lives, although I'm not really sure what. I have no clue where my ex-husband is, so I can't consult with him anyway. Does anyone else have joint legal custody and how do you deal with it?

I do also, I have to consult with him on major issues. For example, if I want to move the children out of state I have to talk to him about it first. However, if he says no it doesn't mean I cannot go. If we were to go to court over it, I would have to prove that my livelihood is present in the state I am moving to. If you have good reason for doing something, the court will often find in favor of the custodial parent. Other things would be major medical issues, assuming there is time to consult with him.
