Maybe he's praying that the woman will still believe him inspite of all the lies he has said. Kidding aside, maybe it's just their way of showing how they love their gf.

I guess it's a good tactic that has been used in the past to propose someone in marriage and still works as the girls are impressed and think that the power is in their hands.
